Beth Am has long had a committment to social action and involvement in our community. For many years we have collected canned and non-perishable food items for the local food pantry and we have participated in the county-wide soup kitchen run by the Interreligious Fellowship for the Homeless of Bergen County. As participants we serve nutritious and delicious home cooked meals every three months to those in need. A large number of members participate in this program by shopping, cooking, serving the meal or donating funds.

This year the social action program has greatly expanded. In addition to collecting food items we have been collecting items for specific needs including: cleaning supplies, beauty supplies (shampoos, deodorants, soaps etc.), food items for a specific local family for Thanksgiving and Christmas, as well as gifts for the family, and supplies for the local Gilda' Club (which provides emotional support for cancer patients and their families). Each month we have a specific "mitzvah" and congregants contribute to the monthly need.

By participating in social action projects we are aware of our connection to and responsibility to the entire community as well as to the Jewish community. Non-members as well as members are welcome to participate in these projects.
