Our congregation was founded in 1964 by a group of Teaneck families who wanted to create a Reform synagoue that would retain a warm and cozy atmosphere, a synagogue that would stay small enough for each and every family to know each other, while still offering to our members the same necessary services that a larger synagogue makes available. Some of our most active members today are second and third generation of our founding families.

We purchased our building in 1965. Most of the structure is still the original, including the massive hand hewn beams that make up the support of our sanctuary. The handmade needlepoint that adorns our Torah ark, depicting our Jewish heritage, was made in a quilting bee fashion by the women of our founding families.

The classroom building addition, which now houses our offices, the Library, Religious School, Adult Education Center and the Nursery School, was dedicated in 1970. Our religious school is staffed by dedicated professional teachers and administrated by our Rabbi Educator. Our nursery school is also staffed by dedicated and caring Montessori trained teachers and by a professional nursery school director.

Since our inception in 1964, we have always had a full time Rabbi, who is available to counsel, to teach, to be a participant in our memberships' lives and life cycle events, to be an active part of the community, as well as lead services. Many of our Rabbis, as a career move, have gone on to larger congregations. Our services are led by our Rabbi and Cantor. Our services have been accompanied by a professional organist since we have occupied this building.

In the beginning, all of our members were Teaneck residents. Over the years we started to draw from several of the neighboring towns. Now many of our members come from neighboring towns, driving past other synagogues because they prefer the warm and cozy feeling that you can only get in a smaller synagogue.
